北野の家
- 神戸の北野における住宅である。神戸では六甲山系の隆起で生まれた地形からなる坂の街が形成されてきた。このような地勢の街であるから、坂の街ならではの、山から海へ向けられた眼差しが街並みとなって受け継がれてきた。北野は神戸の山手に位置し、街をひと際広く望むことができる場所である。明治の開港以来、日本人と外国人が共に暮らす雑居地として発展してきたこの地では、街を望む眼差しは人種を超え、多様な人々の中で受け継がれ育まれてきた。そもそも「遥かに望む」という行為は人間の本能そのものであり、その本能に支えられた眼差しが地形と街の文脈に重なることで、固有の風景構造が形成されてきたのだと考えている。そこで私たちはこの風景構造がそのまま住まいとして立ち現れるような建築を考えた。そうすることで長い時間を生き続けてきた街と住まいが接続され、風景の中に住まいを拡張することができると考えたのである。
具体的には、傾斜地の人工地盤上に建つ条件を鑑み、基礎となるフットプリントを樹の幹のようにコンパクトにまとめ、その上に水平に延びる床は樹木が幹から大らかに枝振りを広げるように張り出させ、複雑な傾斜地における直接的な影響を抑えながら大らかな住まいを生み出している。この水平に伸びる枝張りのような床は、街への眼差しそのものであり、樹冠のような屋根から雪吊りのようなロット材で適宜吊り上げることで、より自由な張り出しを実現している。斜面に根を張る樹木のような住まいから遥かに街を望む暮らしを想像している。
- This is a residence in Kitano, Kobe. Kobe has developed into a hilly town, created by the uplift of the Rokko Mountains. Due to this topography, the unique gaze from the mountains to the sea has been passed down as part of the town's streetscape. Kitano is located in Kobe's Yamate area, offering exceptionally wide views of the city. Since the port opened in the Meiji era, this area has developed into a mixed residential area where Japanese and foreigners live together, and this gaze looking out over the city has been passed down and nurtured among a diverse range of people, transcending race. The act of "looking far into the distance" is a human instinct, and we believe that the gaze supported by this instinct, combined with the topography and the context of the city, has led to the formation of a unique landscape structure. We therefore conceived an architecture in which this landscape structure emerges as a home. In doing so, we believed that the home would be connected to the city, which has existed for a long time, and that it would be possible to expand the home into the landscape. Specifically, in consideration of the conditions of being built on an artificial ground on a sloping site, the foundation footprint was kept compact like a tree trunk, and the floor that extends horizontally above it overhangs like a tree's branches spreading out generously from its trunk, creating a spacious home while minimizing the direct impact on the complex sloping site. This horizontally extending, branch-like floor is the very gaze towards the city, and by appropriately lifting it from the canopy-like roof with lumber like snow-hanging supports, a more free-flowing overhang is achieved. We imagine a life with a view of the city from a home like a tree with roots spreading out on the slope.
